Create a blog

A blog is the container for everything else: posts, categories, tags, authors, campaigns and comments. Most sites need one blog. Create a second one only when you need a separate blog on another domain or under another path.

Before you start​

Have these ready:

  • The domain the blog will live on. The form lists the shopping domains of your SuiteCommerce Advanced websites. If the list is empty, no website has a domain configured yet, and the blog cannot be saved.
  • A path, such as blog. It becomes https://yourdomain.com/blog.
  • An image folder name, such as blog-images. Yello! creates a folder with this name in the File Cabinet and stores every image you upload for this blog there.

Steps​

  1. Open the blog selector at the top left of the dashboard and choose New Blog. The header and sidebar disappear while you are on the creation form.
  2. Fill in the form. It is the same form as Blog Settings, so every field is described there. The required ones are:
    • Name
    • Path
    • Domains (at least one)
    • Category Path and Tag Path
    • Theme
    • Image Path
    • Live Preview Domains
    • Page Size
  3. Click Save. The toast "Blog created" appears, the new blog becomes the selected blog, and you land on its settings page.
Suggested defaults

Path blog, Category Path category, Tag Path tag, Page Size 10. Pick an Image Path that names the blog, for example news-images, so the File Cabinet stays readable.

What happens when you save​

  • Yello! creates the folder Live Hosting Files/yello-dashboard/<Image Path> with the subfolders author, blog and post. If the folder cannot be created, the blog is not saved.
  • The blog is active immediately. It appears on the site as soon as the Yello! extension is active on that domain, even before it has posts. Tick Inactive in the header of the form if you want to prepare content first.

Limits and rules​

  • Blog limit. Your account allows a fixed number of blogs, one by default. The New Blog entry is always visible, but saving beyond the limit fails with the message "Blog limit exceeded". Contact BrokenRubik to raise the limit. Inactive blogs count toward it.
  • Image folder names must be unique. If another blog already uses the same Image Path, saving fails with "The image folder name "…" is already in use by another blog. Please choose a different name."
  • Paths are not checked for uniqueness. Two blogs with the same path on the same domain will conflict on the site, and the storefront shows whichever it finds first. Keep paths unique yourself.
  • The blog image goes to the previously selected blog's folder. On a brand-new blog the image folder does not exist yet, so an image uploaded during creation lands in the folder of the blog that was selected before. Upload the blog image after the first save to avoid this.
